CASE STUDY: AERIAL LIFTS

THE SHAPE OF STABILITY

Several years ago, we were approached by Verizon to design a new Aerial Lift Platform that would reduce the skyrocketing repair/maintenance costs related to their existing fiberglass bucket. It was clear from the beginning that we could leverage rotomolding technology to keep sending their workers up safely without their repair costs going up as well.

UNIQUE CHALLENGES.

  • Fiberglass lift buckets have been the standard for years – would users accept plastic?
  • Damage to fiberglass buckets is tricky.  Is it simply cosmetic or more extensive? Each time a bucket was damaged, the truck would be taken out of service until the bucket was inspected and approved or repaired.
  • A downed truck results in lost time and money for Verizon.

CREATIVE SOLUTIONS.

  • We developed a rotomolded polyethylene shell that sat in a steel framework.  Safe and solid.

  • We incorporated a rotomolded door which bounced back from day to day impact.

  • The savings the new bucket provided was substantial and allowed Verizon to be able to purchase more trucks as a result.
